What is this demonstrator ?
This demonstrator has been set up in order to illustrate the potential of accessible publishing whose concepts are underpining the EUAIN project. The demonstrator can be used for producing different output formats on-demand, from the same well-structured input file. It shall be emphasised however that this demonstrator offers limited functionalities so that it cannot be considered as a tool to be used for a production purpose.
The XML Digital Talking Book (DTBook) format (NISO Z39.86) has been chosen as a pivotal format on which converters are applied on the fly to produce the output documents in different possible formats (HTML, PDF, ...). Moreover, in order to make the process accessible to a wider audience and to demonstrate that well-structured documents can be produced easily with standard word processors, i.e. by non-specialists, input files can also be provided in an Open Document Format (.odt files). The Open Office word processor can be used for that.
This demonstrator contains the following functionalities:

ublishing Accessible Documents.
This section aims at demonstrating how structured files can be automatically
processed to produce alternative formats for print impaired people or mainstream
electronic formats complying with accessibility guidelines.
Checking
the Structure of a Document
This section provides a tool to analyse the quality of XML DTBook documents.
This tool generates a report on the structure level of a document: its table
of contents, how images are annoted, how tables are structured, how many
footnotes it contains etc
Who should use these tools ?
This demonstrator is of particular interest for:
- publishers, content providers, service providers, in order to investigate the potential benefits of structured information provision for accessibility;
- organisations producing accessible information (libraries for the blind, support associations of impaired people, specialised schools ...) to demonstrate how accessible documents could be produced more efficiently.
Who can use this demonstrator ?
This demonstrator can be used by everyone who is interested in its functionalities and who has completed the registration form and activated an account.
The services offered by this demonstrator are free of charge. However, this demonstrator is not intended to be used as a production tool and its administrators reserve the rights to disable the accounts of people making an excessive use of it.
